Battleaxe 021 rear tire to replace w 023 By Rich Kangas riding a 2003 Yamaha YZF 600RC
April 14, 2012

Pros:

Felt solid and stable at all speeds and angles on all freeways and twisty roads in the SF Bay Area and on surrounding mountain and hilly roads. Warmed up quickly. No problems with cupping. Would flick back and forth into turns easily.

Cons:

Exiting on a freeway exit,or in a quick slow down, it would produce rough road noise around 40mph to 30mph. Not much rain in these parts but had no problems in a few storms.

Did not have a very aggressive tread patern but tire was sticky in turns. Curvature allowed a quick roll into twisty turns.

Pros:

They handle like a sport tire when new. Have been in the rain (got caught) and I felt comfortable on them. Pushed fairly hard in the turns and they grip 'OK', but not 'Great'. Again, this is when they had decent tread on them....

Cons:

Stock tires were BT016. They were a much better tire with a better tread life! I got 6800 miles on them.I bought the BT21's for having a supposed harder center for long trips on the interstates... They wore out in the middle (rear) faster than the stockers! Terrible handling when worn. My front tire wore out on the outsides so fast, began cupping within 1000 miles...I was shocked! I'm going back to the BT016's!!!!!

They might be better than the BT20's.... had them on a Honda ST1300.... they didn't last that long either,.. but again, that's a heavy bitch of a bike!

Pros:

Great when new and price.

Cons: Wear shows flat center and cupping.

I am new to Sport Touring and I purchased a 2002 Triumph Sprint ST August of 2008, an amazing bike in every way. I purchased it used from a dealer with a full service, new battery and 2 new Bridgestone BT-021’s mounted and ready to go at 3300 miles, now seating close to 9900, with the 6600 miles I have put on these tires, I would have to give a thumbs up. When new they seemed way stickier than they do now, the rear got a flat spot around 2000 miles. As I read in another review, someone felt it was a little hard to get these tires to lean properly, they will, but the rider would have to make a deliberate effort. At 6600 miles they certainly still have life, but the rear has a very noticeable flat spot and the front is starting to cup. I live near the mountains and try to ride the bike in mostly twisty spots, this bike is not my daily rider, so it is seeing only the best and fun roads when I ride it. I do want to start touring more and want a mileage tire that handles. On my other bike and car I use Dunlops, I love them. I hear very good things about the new Road Smarts, only the jury is out on the mileage. The Sprint goes in for a full service in 2000 miles, so I am hoping the BT-021’s last that long. BT-021’s, great for the price, great when new (first 3000 miles). They haven’t built up confidence in my riding and that may be me too.

Cons:

These tires are RUBBISH!!!! 2000 miles out of a high-end touring based radial, that is supposed to be a dual compound rear tire is crap!!Paid $490AUD for a set fitted, lasted exactly 1 month. BT021 TIRES SHOULD BE TAKEN OFF THE MARKET!!!.

I eat them up By Dan Cold riding a FJR1300
April 23, 2009

Pros:

Great traction, I'm WFO out of the corners just trying to get some slip and I guess my bike is wimpy cause I can't break them loose. I don't do burnouts or wheelie crap I just role on the 90 ft lbs of torque my bike gives me and they do fine! I like them for wet traction and they heat up very fast. The front tread pattern is one of the few that doesn't make the very heavy fjr have the infamous deceleration wobble so I'll buy them just for that but there are other reasons, one is the fact that the front will wear out as fast as the rear .....YMMV!

Cons:

They wear out too fast if you ride like me so some people hate them for that reason, go to fjrforum and you will see. some people get a lot of mileage but I think they ride their bikes like they have Vespa step through's! [I'll get some heat for that] The front tire is very noisy but I wear earplugs and don't care. I don't want to give them such great ratings but these tires work for me and I have tried quite a few sport touring tires at the rate I suck them up!

uummm... they are round and they are a bitch to mount! very stiff sidewall [rear]

Pros:

Decent life and grip

Cons:

Front tire scallops VERY badly

Came stock on my bike, got about 7,500 out of them. Not bad until the end, where the front scallop got uncomfortable. My bike has to do everything, so these tires were OK. Good wet grip. I wouldn't take them to the track though.

Pros:

Cons:

I am used to getting 20000 to 25000 km out of a set of tires - namely Bridgestone BT020 - no problem every time - for the last 10 years - on a ST1300.

They were ready for replacement based on a conservative assessment of their condition. At the time of the replacement, the dealer installed a 120/60ZR on the front instead of the 120/70ZR and I of course didn't notice until it started to wear poorly and show a dramatic difference in mileage as compared to the originals That is when I noticed the wrong size. Poor mileage (6000) and cupping was the issue. I spoke to the Bridgestone Rep. and asked what the consequences of running this size on my FJR was and I was told that I should certainly replace it with the correct size upon the next exchange. He also offered that had I noticed the size issue at the beginning I should have run the 120/60 with a couple of more PSI. He suggested an increase from 39 to 42 psi due to the smaller tire size carrying that much weight. I replaced the front and continued to run the rear and have now put 12,000 miles on the rear and 6000 on the front. The flat spot is an obvious wear pattern on both but that's due to the type of miles. (LD Riding.) I will be replacing them both this week and keep the fronts for a back-up as it still has many miles remaining. If one can be obsessed with air pressure then that is me. I truly believe the tire wear is most impacted by proper air pressure. If touring is your preferred riding style I'd recommend giving the BT021 a chance.

These fronts are rubbish by Agro riding a Triumph Thruxton

Pros:

Good grip and stability.

Cons:

These fronts are rubbish!!!!!!!!! 1800kms and this tire is down to the side wear indicators!!! I want my money back Mr. Bridgestone!! BT020 fronts last 10,000 to 12,000 kilometres.

Pros:

Good traction but not great.

Cons:

Not designed for a heavy bike. The tires don't inspire confidence. As they wear the handling goes downhill very fast. Poor wear.

BT021 By Rod Mckeithan riding a 2004 ST1300
January 5, 2009

Pros:

front: good feed back, good in wet, heats up quick enough, tracks good on groved roads, and over metal grid bridges.... rear:pretty much same as front, but has longevity, prolly5-6k for the rear

Cons:

front goes away way too quickly, one road trip with about 1800 miles on it to the mountains,it was toast on return home...sides were shaved to wear bars and center was flattened to wear bars

Sport-Touring by mfg description...alledged hi mile tires, black wall zr rated tires. have same ratings as OEM tires and run same pressures
