There are a number of tire tests that helped set the ranking, by Motorad and other sites. The more formal, comparative tests were given more weight in the ranking process than user reviews.
In some cases the same tire was reviewed in multiple tests, so this helped bridge the gap between tires being reviewed in one test but not another. Intermixed with these more formal tests are other tires that were not part of formal testing.
The Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport S22 was tops in the Motorrad annual tire review. In total, the S22 won or tied for first in eight of nine categories. The tire is very precise through the corners. Braking distance tied for the best. The wet braking was similar to dry braking performance, which is noteworthy.
The Metzeler M9 RR is the replacement for the M7. Tire life and carcass stiffness is improved over the M7. Multiple reviewers say the M9 is an improvement over the M7. The tire has quick warm up, side grip and stability.
The Continental Sport Attack 4 was rated near the top of the Motorrad tire test in 2020. The tire warms up quickly which helps in the cold.
The Dunlop Q3 plus Sportmax is a mixed street and track tire. Some reports of cold weather handling issues, but otherwise people like the tire.
The Pirelli Diablo Rosso 3 is a highly rated track day tire. It is also a capable street tire. Most reviews prefer the 3 to the 2. Handling is quick and the bike is flickable. Tires warm up quickly. Some reports of losing grip.
The Michelin Power RS has a good mix of handling, stick and tire life. Multiple riders prefer the Michelin Power RS over the Michelin Pilot Power.
The Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa 2 is consistently praised for its stick. Mileage is also very good for a sticky tire.
The Michelin Power 5 is a replacement for the Pilot Power 3. This tire is rated well overall, Good mix of tire life and stick.
In 2017 the Metzeler Sportec M7 RR was rated best in the wet by Motorrad magazine. Overall this is a solid tire with quick warm up and turn in. The front tire is not as highly rated as some.
The Continental ContiSportAttack 2 is more of a street tire than a track tire. It provides greater mileage compared to its peer group, ranking first in one formal test. One of the main complaints is wet handling.
